The women’s varsity basketball team played against Mercy High School on Monday, Jan. 30 and came out with a win. Students were able to dress down on Wednesday, Feb. 1 for Student Appreciation Day. Students were also given tickets to redeem for free cupcakes in the cafeteria.

This week the women’s basketball team played Fallston High School. JC won 59-46. Students also partook in the March for Life event in Washington D.C. Jan. 23. Students who attended school were a part of Respect Life Day, which included guest speakers, a movie, and multiple group discussions with their advisory.

The varsity wrestling team battled against Rising Sun and came out with a win on Wednesday, Jan. 7. Freshmen also participated in floor hockey during their gym classes. Finally, Ravens fans were able to close the week with Purple Friday showing their pride for the team.

Donations were collected on Tuesday, Dec. 13 for Grace Leung’s “Support our Troops” fundraiser. On Wednesday, Dec. 14, JC defeated St. Frances with a final score of 63 to 57. The annual Christmas Concert was also held on Thursday, Dec. 15, which showcased the talents of the chorus, jazz band, orchestra, band, and Bella Vocce.

The women’s basketball team completed their “Shooting Santa” fundraiser to help raise money for underprivileged families for Christmas. They also defeated IND in their game on Wednesday, Dec. 7. Another highlight of this week were the play previews for “White Christmas” on Wednesday, Dec. 7 and Friday, December 9. “White Christmas” will be performed from Dec. 8 – Dec. 11.

The Culture Shock club hosted their American Heritage Fair Wednesday, Nov. 30 throughout the school day. On Thursday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m., juniors and seniors were inducted into the National Honor Society.

The winter dress code came into effect this week and after school activites such as Ultimate Frisbee were held. Students also enjoyed their usual off mods and finished up last-minute assignments.

The women’s varsity volleyball team won the IAAM ‘B’ conference championship for the third consecutive year on Saturday Oct. 29. Students were also busy in the art wing finishing their paintings, drawings, and ceramic work for the first quarter, which ended Friday, Oct. 28. On Nov 4, a fire drill occured unexpectedly and students sat on the football bleachers during the drill cold and anticipating going back inside. The varsity football team won the Homecoming game vs. St. Mary’s 31-24. It’s been a great week here at JC.

Pep Rally Oct. 24 2011

Photography by Ashley Moxley. The pep rally took place on Thursday, Oct. 27 at the end of the school day. Senior emcees Maria Edwards and Denzel Varner introduced the JV and varisty cheerleaders, junior Marcus Monroe playing the drums, seniors Jack Hinder and Christie MacDonald performing a skit, and beach related challenges for members of each class and staff members. The pep rally was filled with flashing lights, loud music, and cheers from individual classes. It culminated with the students rushing to the floor, pledging to “protect this house” in the hopes of winning the Under Armour contest.
