And then I grab the needle and pull some alcohol in. Then uh, where is that rat? Oh, the cage right. Grab the rat and insert alcohol into her. Is she alive? Yes, good. Oh, right, check and make sure she is still pregnant.

While being mentored, Paul Lazor, psychology teacher, was assigned to a professor to help guide him. The professor insisted that Lazor help with his experiment, testing to see the effect on babies whose mother’s drank alcohol while pregnant with them.

Every couple of days Lazor would have to go through that process. This could be you, if only you went to State University of NY, Albany (Ualbany.)

UAlbany opened in 1844 as an internationally recognized public research institution.  It is widely known for its College of Nanotechnological Science and Engineering, which is number one in the world.

UAlbany has 13,250 undergraduates and 5,000 graduates with over 100 different student nationalities.

“My graduate program had around 50 students,” said Lazor.

Applying:

UAlbany offers early decision, deferred admissions, and rolling admission. Along with the application, admissions requires a $40 application fee. When applying to UAlbany, it is expected of you to take either the SAT or ACT. Admissions also closely examines your Honor and Advanced Placement courses and your leadership record.

What it Offers:

UAlbany has different groups, clubs, sports, and organizations to fit whatever you are interested in. They have study abroad programs, academic groups, arts organizations, athletic clubs, intramurals, cultural groups, political groups, pre-professional organizations, religious groups, service groups, student associations, fraternities, and sororities. For sports UAlbany has baseball, basketball, cross country, field hockey, football, golf, indoor track, track and field, football, softball, soccer, tennis, women’s volleyball, and lacrosse.

The programs of study include agriculture, biological science, business, communications and the arts, computer and physical science, engineering and environmental design, health professions, and social science.

“It’s [the clinical psychology program] like any other. Classes were fine, a means to an end. I wanted to get my Ph.D so I had to go through it,” said Lazor.

The UAlbany campus has over 7,200 co-ed dorms, apartments, married-student houses, honor houses, language houses, and special interest houses.

The special interest houses have themes ranging from the Chinese language to Womens’ leadership. If you share an interest with a group of people, you are almost guaranteed a special interest house.

The food at UAlbany is described by their website as basic, but on some days they offer Wendy’s, Au Bon Pain, and Driedel’s Kosher Kafe.
