Junior gets early fundraising start at Looney’s Pub
The junior class kicked off fundraising for Ring Dance by hosting an event at Looney’s Pub on Oct. 3.
To participate, customers handed event flyers to the waiter when paying. For each group involved, the restaurant donated 10 percent of the total bill to the class of 2014.
At the event, junior Katherine DiRocco ate dinner with her sister, freshman Rebecca DiRocco, and two friends, junior Madi Day and junior Emily Kennedy.
“It’s a good way to raise money for our junior class,” Katherine said.
Day likes the event, but “thinks it has been overdone,” since sports teams such as football and cheerleading have already held the same type of event. Instead, she suggested “something that is more interactive with everyone instead of being separated.”
Katherine elaborated, recommending bake sales and car washes. Junior class president Kirsten Kyburz also suggested a Sunday breakfast at Applebee’s.
“I think [receiving your ring] is the big step to become an upperclassman,” Day said. “Although [the price of the ring itself] is concerning, I think we can pull it off.”
“It’s still early in the year. Being a part of a school, you can always get things donated,” junior class moderator Erik Fabriziani said.
Compared to previous years, the class of 2014 is getting an early start, according to Fabriziani.
“We have a smaller class, so our [dance] is more expensive for individuals,” Kyburz said.
In addition, Fabriziani explained that the fundraising is not only to pay for Ring Dance, but also used as a basis for funding Senior Prom.
“[The fundraising] is to cover the cost of decorations for ring and prom. We want to make the tickets as cheap as possible,” Kyburz said.
“I am most excited about the dance, the theme, and the dress,” DiRocco said.
Current themes for Ring Dance include jungle, starry night, candy land, when in Rome, and casino night. During Spirit Week, a survey monkey will be sent out to all juniors to vote for their own preference concerning the themes.
