We cannot enter the approaching semester without taking a look back at the semester that was.
One of the major disappointments this semester was Spirit Week.
Class Color Day, normally the most entertaining day of Spirit Week, had a lot of the fun taken out of it after we were told that it was “emotionally damaging” to tag people with duct tape. If having a piece of colored duct tape stuck to you hurts your psyche, I think you have much more serious problems to worry about.
However, I did approve of the new button system that was introduced this semester. Earning buttons was a fun way to introduce the new brand. Sure, it may have gone on a little too long, but the wrap-up assembly was actually kind of fun. It was a lot better than spending time in class. And I approve of any time I get to miss class.
Of course, what would a review of the semester be without mentioning something that was on both the minds and lips of the student body for a month? GOLD. This “student-run organization” brought to our attention that 68% of John Carroll students have not had an alcoholic beverage in the past 30 days. GOLD, because you gave me that fact, let me run some other numbers by you.
About 30% of the school’s heating and air conditioning work all the time, only 50% of the school’s vending machines function, 80% of the broken computers that are sent to the tech lab never see the light of day again, 100% of JC teachers are underpaid, and almost, if not all, of the 100,000 dollars given to GOLD was spent on gift cards for members, t-shirts, posters and pens. Thanks for the information, but according to the JC grading system, 68 percent is still a failure, which is exactly what this program is.
Overall, this semester had its ups and downs, but, hey, it’s school. Did you really expect anything better?
