Olympics impresses despite controversies

With the 2010 Winter Olympics over, it’s time to review the best and the worst of the Olympics.

First, let’s cover the best. Shawn White dominated in snowboarding and scored higher than everyone else on his victory run. Let me say that again: on his victory run, where he didn’t have to do anything, he out scored all the other Olympians. I don’t know why, but for some reason, White reminds me of Michael Phelps.  Maybe it’s the way that they smoked the competition.   Another good thing was Apollo Ohno and his two bronze and one silver medal.  All his hard work and training has given him everything he has ever wanted, a sponsorship from Vicks Dayquil and Alaska airlines.

Now it’s time for the bad. Norway’s men’s curling team looked foolish with their pants on the ice. Seriously, did you see those things? MC Hammer thought that they were gaudy.

Another worst was Sven Kramer and his disqualification. Kramer was about to set the world record for speed skating. However, before he could cross the finish line, his coach told him to make a move inside which got him disqualified. Kramer was enraged and threw his goggles at his coach. If that was me, I think I’d kill my coach. I mean, it’s in Vancouver, so murder is what? Two years in jail and a twenty dollar fine?

Another bad thing was Russia.  They were just horrific altogether throughout the Olympics and went away with merely three medals Gold medals and only fifteen medals total.  Instead of just taking it, they whined, complained, and blamed other people. Not only did the Russians perform poorly, but they had terrible sportsmanship.

Speaking of things that suck, the U.S. men’s curling team did just that. Apparently, the U.S. curling team was so bad that one of the members had his Wikipedia page edited to say he was the biggest choke artist ever.  That’s kind of harsh.  Plus, I’m pretty sure that title goes to Donavan McNabb.

Still, every four years, the Olympics truly unite the world. That’s why no matter what controversies arise, the Olympics will always be a good thing.  Who knows maybe, next winter Olympics it’ll actually snow.
