When a person is out in public with a hat on his head and no hair peeking out from underneath, I assume that he must be battling some form of cancer. I always took for granted that others thought the same way.
According to usmagazine.com, “The Moment,” a style blog for The New York Times, gave actor Michael C. Hall no such respect. Via Twitter, “The Moment” said, “Is Michael C. Hall playing Bob Marley in an upcoming movie? Don’t get the hat or what he is hiding under it.”
While walking the red carpet at the Golden Globe Awards, actor Hall had sported a skull cap. Hall has been battling Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
After learning this fact, “The Moment” released a half-hearted apology, again via Twitter.
However, this apology should not have been necessary because the mean-spirited comment should never have been made in this first place. “The Moment” should have checked their sources before bashing someone who is bravely fighting a serious disease, while also offering hope for others.
If you are going to insult the way a person looks, it is important to first check your facts. Otherwise, you could easily be faced with the same embarrassment, which accompanies such blatantly ignorant remarks.
