Portland, Oregon – Scammers have sent false e-mails promising young teens walk-on roles in the upcoming “Twilight” film in exchange for money. The e-mails state that casting in the Portland area for the film “Breaking Dawn” has begun, when in reality a casting director has not been hired and production has not started. A former casting director for the “Twilight” saga says that casting will begin soon and that details will be given free of charge via local newspapers.

Germany – Evidence of mass cannibalism has been found at a 7,000-year-old human burial site in southwest Germany. A leader of the dig said that remains from around 500 humans have been purposefully cut and broken – a sign of cannibalism. Patterns on human bones at the site are consistent with those of animal bones spit-roasted at other sites. It is believed that cannibalism occurred in Europe during times of famine.

Boston, Massachusetts – After a nine hour hunt for giant red balloons across the country, the Pentagon awarded a team from MIT with $40,000. The competition was created by the Pentagon to analyze the effects of the social networking. Four thousand teams from all over the county relied on social networking sites to gather and verify the location of each balloon. Each balloon was visible during daylight hours in various cities on Saturday. The winning MIT team will give all the money to those who helped find the balloons.
